The Info Sheet: Headlong Towards Disaster (S3, E15)
Boden tells 51 of his father's passing and that he will be taking some furlough and in the meantime Chief Pat Pridgen will fill in for him.
Capp mentions Squad being shorthanded and would anyone be subbing for Newhouse. Boden says ask Pridgen about it (Is it bad I never really noticed when Newhouse went exactly?). Welch shows up as relief for Squad 3. Casey and Dawson are both unhappy about it.
Casey, Dawson and Severide speak to Pridgen about Welch's assignment to 51 and he says that Severide has no personal issues with Welch and Pridgen also vouches that he's an excellent firefighter, despite them maybe not liking him personally.
Severide tells Casey not to worry about Welch and he'll keep an eye on him. He also asks Casey where he's been the last few nights. Kelly first guesses he and Dawson have got back together but he tells him it's the woman he met at Molly's the other night. Kelly is all for Matt having some fun and says he deserves it.
They get a call to a bowling alley where a guys caught in a pinsetter. The Chief gives orders for everyone to go to the back but Kelly says some of them should stay at the front and orders Casey and Brett with him at the front. Chief asks Casey if Kelly makes a habit of ignoring his Chief and Casey just shrugs it off.
As they leave the bowling alley, Otis slips on the lane and takes a fall and then struggles to get off until Casey helps him. Pridgen mocks him and makes fun of him falling and even applauded when Casey helps him up. No one at 51 is amused by Pridgen's behaviour.
Pridgen asks to spak to Severide and tells him he had quick and clear thinking on the call and he was glad to see he wasn't afraid to push back on an order if required. He tells him the CFD could use more officers like him.
Otis tells Pridgen that everyone calls him Otis and he says from now on, he's gutter ball. Cruz and Mouch chuckle at the new name but Casey sticks up for Otis.
Beth, Casey's new girlfriend turns up at the firehouse and it turns out, she's Pridgen's ex-wife. Casey decides to break things off with her.
Severide's home when Casey gets back. He remarks on it taking 5 hours to break up with someone and guesses he slept with her. Kelly says he has to end it with her now and Casey laughs and says you know you're in trouble when Kelly Severide says you're being reckless. He says he's never slept with a Chief's wife.
Welch catches Casey and Beth kissing.
Pridgen calls Severide to his office and asks for his take on Casey. Kelly first of all mentions Casey is his good friend and roommate. Pridgen says it would be a confidential discussion. Kelly says that Casey is one of the best firefighters he's ever worked with. Pridgen says he runs a sloppy comnay and lacks respect for his superiors. Kelly disagrees with the assessment but tells him he's entitled to his opinion.
Pridgen asks Kelly to help him keep an eye on Casey and tells him he'll make it worth his while (he's really not sensing the tone from Kelly, is he?). Kelly tells his they don't do things like this at 51. He tells Kelly to forget he mentioned it.
They go to a call and Severide calls the shots to start with before Pridgen changes the orders. Severide and Welch go in a rescue Otis when he gets trapped in a room with the fire and can't get out. Welch and Severide work together with no issues.
When Pridgen mocks Otis again, Casey stands up for him again and says that all of the firefighters at 51 have proved themselves and deserve resepct. Pridgen is furious and says he wants both Lieutenants in his office in 5 minutes.
Chief says he wont stand insurbordanation and throws back how Kelly disobeyed an order at the bowling alley. Severide points out he commended him for it earlier.
Pridgen tells them to get the windows washed and when Casey says it's 15 degrees outside, he says he can take as many people out as he wants, he just wants the windows cleaned. He then dismisses them. Kelly and Matt clean the windows themselves without getting anyone else to help them.
